What does the Veep Do?

Perhaps it's asking too much from John McCain that he pick a qualified person to be his VP candidate. He's too enthralled with being a maverick and seems to under-appreciate the difficulty of running the federal government.

Still, it seems surprising that he picked an inexperienced governor from a small (in population) who's under investigation in her state for possible wrongdoing and recently appeared clueless on the role and responsibilities of VP. Although the pick does play well with many members of the GOP's evangelic "base"

So much for putting country before politics.
