The first miracle of Hanukkah - after the forces of Antiochus IV had been repelled, the Maccabees discovered that only enough ceremonial oil remained to keep the menorah in the Temple lit for a single day. Miraculously, that oil burned for eight days - until additional oil could be obtained.
The second miracle of Hanukkah - Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a Mormon who moonlights as a writer of Christian hymns and patriotic songs, has collaborated with Madeline Stone, a Jewish songwriter who resides in New York City, to write a snappy Hanukkah song. It's been posted on the website of Tablet, an on-line magazine of Jewish lifestyle and culture.
The song is performed by Rasheeda Azar, a Syrian-American from Indiana.
As the late Jewish writer Harry Golden might have commented - Only in America (which was the title of one of his books).
