Tim Russert used to end each week's Meet the Press by saying, "If it's Sunday, it's Meet the Press."
While the show will go on, sadly it will do so without Tim Russert.
His passing at age 58 would have been untimely in any event, but sadly coincides with the start of the head-to-head 2008 presidential race, which he loved covering. His political insights would have greatly informed public understanding of the issues and candidates.
His passing is also poignant as it occurred just before Father's Day (he was by all accounts a loving son and father). His books on his own relationship with his dad and on how other sons and daughters remembered their dads reminded a lot of readers of the special father - child bond (one that's precious to me).
Janet and I have been moved by the many tributes of Tim Russert's friends and colleagues aired on MSNBC. I was touched by Bob Schieffer's tribute, as he was both a friend, peer and competitor (on Sunday morning interview shows).
