We're in tough financial times, and it will take a long time, some luck, and (hopefully) political guidance to turn things around. Bad time to have a new Administration.
While the new guys seem more competent than the old guys, and more focused on creating and sustaining a broadly based economic renewal, the Treasury Department is (as reported in today's New York Times) understaffed and overtaxed. Apparently, the process of vetting appointees has slowed due to the tax problem "surprises" that torpedoed Tom Daschle (and a few others) and almost torpedoed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
Jon Stewart punctured the credibility of the loud-mouths and self-proclaimed financial experts on cable TV (Jim Cramer - you had it coming) in a funny spot on the Daily Show last week.
