Keep the Home Fires Burning?

In 1979, during a time of high oil prices, Jimmy Carter addressed the country sitting in front of a White House fireplace, wearing a cardigan sweater. He urged Americans to turn their thermostats down to 65 degrees in winter. He was roundly ridiculed in the press and elsewhere.

Now, while people seem more open to getting personally involved in reducing their energy usage (partially thanks to Al Gore), we have a President who has been largely silent on energy conservation.

Guess Jimmy Carter was on to something. Carter's election loss to Ronald Reagan illustrated that the smartest Presidential candidate does not always win.

Janet has got us "energized" into replacing our incandescent light bulbs with those strange looking (but energy efficient) compact fluorescent (CLF) bulbs.
